This year we're excited also to be welcoming, for the first time, ETHS Alum and recipient of the Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award Parneshia Jones! Parneshia -- whose book, Vessel, was published last year -- has been featured on Chicago Public Radio and serves as the poetry editor at Northwestern University Press. (Click HERE to listen to a clip of Parneshia from WBEZ Chicago.) In addition to performing in the Upstairs Theater during Period 3 on Monday, Parneshia, along with her Northwestern colleague Rachel Jamison Webster, will be leading writing workshops in MRC on Wednesday morning.
We hope to see as many of you as possible come in with your teachers and classmates for our presentations and workshops (again, see flyer image above); HOWEVER you are also welcome to attend any of them during your free periods. And, of course, everyone is encouraged stop by our Open Mic during lunch periods on Thursday to read your own poetry or just to listen to and encourage your fellow Wildkits!
PLEASE NOTE: MRC will be closed to regular classes, drop-ins, and Study Hall students during workshop times on Tuesday and Wednesday and during Thursday's Open Mic. We ask that anyone who does visit MRC during those times do so with the intent to participate in that day's Poetry Week events. (The computers WILL NOT be available.) Thank you for your cooperation!
