As mentioned in a previous post, this week (September 30 -- October 6) is the 30th Anniversary of Banned Books Week. Since the inception of Banned Books Week, libraries and bookstores have staged local read-outs — continuous readings of banned/challenged books — as part of their activities. Now, for the second year in a row, readers from around the world can participate in the Banned Books Virtual Read-Out by creating videos proclaiming the virtues of the freedom to read that will be featured on a dedicated YouTube channel. Check out the video below to hear a Virtual Read-Out of Stephen Chbosky's acclaimed YA novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The Books 'R Us Book Club, sponsored by Mrs. Brown-Powell, will be holding its first meeting of the school year TODAY after school in Michael Library. Come hear all about the book club from current and former book club members and join us in previewing our first book, The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green.
