- The Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement in writing for young adults was awarded to Markus Zusak, author of The Books Thief, I Am the Messenger, and Getting the Girl (all three of which are available in MRC).
- The Coretta Scott King -- Virginia Hamilton Award from Lifetime Achievement Award, presented in even years to an African-American author and/or illustrator for a body of his/her published books for children and/or young adults, and who has made a significant and lasting literary contribution, was awarded to Patricia McKissack and her late husband, Fredrick McKissack. The McKissacks' works include Red-Tail Angels: The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II; The Dark-Thirty: Southern Tales of the Supernatural; Black Hoops: The Story of African Americans in Basketball; and Never Forgotten (among many, many others).
- The May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture Award, recognizing an author, critic, librarian, historian, or teacher of children's literature (who then presents a lecture at a winning host site) was awarded to Brian Selznick, illustrator and author of the ground-breaking work The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
